Khadak Singh Da Dhaba
Overview / Abstract

Craving rich dal makhani, smoky tandoori starters, butter chicken or a filling North Indian thali? Khadak Singh Da Dhaba brings Delhi-style North Indian comfort food to Varanasi, with outlets in Bhelupur and Sigra and a menu built for hearty lunches, family dinners and group meals.

From Delhi to Varanasi

Despite the traditional-sounding name, Khadak Singh Da Dhaba is a relatively modern restaurant brand. It was founded by Kawaljeet Singh and Jaspreet Singh in Karkardooma, Delhi, in 2018, and the brand says it has since expanded to more than 70 outlets across North India.

Its focus is straightforward: familiar North Indian food with the rich gravies, tandoori preparations and filling combinations that people usually associate with Punjabi and Delhi-style dining.

In Varanasi, the restaurant currently has two outlets, one around Durgakund–Bhelupur and another in Sigra.

What Is Khadak Singh Da Dhaba Known For?

The menu is considerably broader than the word dhaba might suggest. North Indian food remains the main attraction, but there are also Mughlai dishes, biryani, Indo-Chinese starters, momos, rolls and complete thalis.

Some of the restaurant's signature and prominently listed dishes include Dal Makhani, Malai Chaap, Soya Chaap Masala, Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka, along with vegetarian and chicken thalis. The brand itself lists Dal Makhani, Premium Veg Thali, Classic Chicken Tikka and Butter Chicken among its best sellers.

Dal Makhani

If you are visiting for the first time, KSDD Special Dal Makhani is one of the most obvious dishes to start with. The restaurant describes it as black lentils cooked in a rich tomato-based gravy with cream and butter.

Pair it with naan, roti or another bread from the extensive bread section and it becomes the sort of simple, filling North Indian combination the restaurant is built around.

Soya Chaap

Vegetarians have considerably more choice here than just paneer. The menu includes Malai Chaap, Soya Chaap Masala, Butter Shahi Chaap and Keema Chaap Masala, making chaap one of the restaurant's recurring themes.

The Malai Chaap, for example, is prepared with yoghurt and spices and served in a creamy style, while Soya Chaap Masala goes in the richer, gravy-based direction.

Tandoori and Non-Vegetarian Choices

For non-vegetarian diners, the menu moves from starters such as Chicken Tikka, Tandoori Chicken, Afghani Chicken and Chicken Seekh Kebab to curries including Chicken Curry, Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Lababdar.

There are also chicken and mutton biryanis for anyone wanting a one-dish meal rather than ordering breads and curries separately.

Thalis for an Easy Lunch

One of the more convenient parts of the menu is its thali selection.

The Special Veg Thali includes dal makhani, mixed vegetables, pulao, breads and accompaniments. The larger Premium Veg Thali adds items such as shahi paneer, raita and jeera rice, while the Premium Chicken Thali combines butter chicken with dal makhani, vegetables, rice, raita and breads.

For solo diners or someone looking for lunch without spending time deciding between several dishes, the thalis are probably the simplest way to explore the restaurant.

Ambience: More Restaurant Than Roadside Dhaba

Do not arrive expecting charpais beside a highway.

The Varanasi outlets follow a contemporary casual-dining format, with indoor seating, warm lighting and colourful décor. The styling borrows the idea of a Punjabi dhaba without trying to recreate a literal roadside restaurant.

The Bhelupur outlet is listed as family-friendly and kid-friendly, with indoor seating, parking and takeaway facilities.

That makes the place suitable for a family dinner, a meal with friends or a casual group gathering rather than only a quick stop for food.

Khadak Singh Da Dhaba Outlets in Varanasi

The more established Varanasi location is in Jawahar Nagar on Durgakund Road, Bhelupur, close to the Gurudham Road area. Current dining listings put the approximate cost at around ₹1,300 for two, although your final bill will naturally depend on what you order.

The second outlet, Khadak singh da dhaba, is in Kamla Nagar, Sigra. Dining platforms currently estimate roughly ₹1,000 for two at this branch.

Opening-hour information differs slightly between current listings, so it is worth checking the restaurant's latest listing before travelling, particularly if you plan to visit late at night.

Vegetarian or Non-Vegetarian?

Both.

This is one of the restaurant's strengths for groups. A table can order dal makhani, paneer, chaap and vegetarian starters alongside tandoori chicken, kebabs, butter chicken or biryani without having to choose a restaurant specialising exclusively in one side of the menu.

Its current menu covers around a dozen major sections, including North Indian starters, vegetarian and non-vegetarian mains, breads, biryani, Chinese dishes and thalis.

What Should You Order on Your First Visit?

For two or three people, a good introduction would be a tandoori or chaap starter followed by Dal Makhani, one paneer or chicken gravy and freshly prepared breads.

Vegetarians could build a meal around Malai Chaap + Dal Makhani + Paneer Lababdar + breads, while non-vegetarian diners could look at Chicken Tikka or Tandoori Chicken followed by Butter Chicken or Chicken Tikka Masala.

And if you are eating alone, a veg or chicken thali keeps things much simpler.

Is Khadak Singh Da Dhaba Worth Visiting?

Varanasi has no shortage of North Indian restaurants, so Khadak Singh Da Dhaba is not necessarily a place you visit for something uniquely Banarasi.

Its appeal is different.

It is a place for familiar, indulgent North Indian comfort food—the kind of meal built around creamy dal, smoky tandoori starters, buttery gravies and hot breads. It also works particularly well when a group contains both vegetarians and non-vegetarians and everyone wants plenty of options.

If you are around Durgakund, Bhelupur, Lanka or Sigra and are in the mood for a substantial Punjabi-style meal rather than street food or traditional Banarasi cuisine, Khadak Singh Da Dhaba is one of the options worth considering.
